wmslog1aThe Welsh Mines Society (WMS) was created in 1979 by the late David Bick to cater for interest stimulated by the publication of his Old Metal Mines of Mid Wales series of books. The WMS hold two field meetings at mine sites in Wales each summer (normally June and September), plus an indoor meeting each March. They produce two excellent newsletters each year and an occasional journal “Welsh Mines and Mining”.
The Welsh Mines Preservation Trust (WMPT) was established in 1992 by members of the WMS. You can find out more about our history here.
Whereas the WMPT concentrates on the recording and conservation of surface features of mines; the WMS provides surface and underground field trips at its meetings.
The WMPT provides insurance for its members while working on Trust projects on the surface, we do not provide underground insurance. The WMS however provides insurance for surface and underground visits to mines.
