Pont Ceunant Generating Station (Frongoch) (SN 709 743)

In 2007 with funding from Ceredigion County Council’s “Spirit of the Miners” Project, we carried out a clean up operation at Pont Ceunant Generating Station, this had become a local dump for household rubbish and “white goods”.

All the rubbish was cleared and now the building which is of “cathedral size” proportions is appreciated as a local historical feature. An interpretation board has been installed, in such a position that prevents cars stopping at the site to unload material to dump. A grille has been fitted at the entrance to prevent further dumping, this was designed by the late Steve Oliver and constructed by the local blacksmith Clive Davies from nearby Abermagwr. It shows the transition from water power to electric power.

A full archaeological excavation of the floor was undertaken, following which we were able to produce a ground plan showing where all the equipment was sited.

Our thanks to the landowner Henry Williams and his family for their help with this project.
